With God

"For nothing is impossible with God."  -Luke 2:37

Lilias Trotter wrote in her journal, "The things that are impossible with me are possible with God.  May it not be that the human impossibility is just the very things that set His Hand free?  And that it is the things which are possible for us to do that He is in a measure to let alone?....We love to see the impossible done.  And so does God."

When this little boy, standing in his daddy's boots, was born in 1988 we had no idea he had a heart defect that could have taken him from us 26 years later if the impossible had not intersected with the possible.  It was only by "happenstance" (but I know it was by design) that when his heart stopped momentarily he was in the hospital for some other reason and it was seen on the heart monitor.  It all started when he made the decision to call me about the problem he was having and I had encouraged him to head to the hospital.  After a week in the hospital it was by "happenstance" that his girlfriend's mother was a critical care nurse there, which gave me comfort and when the insurance company said it was time to discharge him, the heart specialist was instrumental in making sure he was not discharged without a "life vest" (a vest he'd wear continually that would shock his heart back into starting if it were to stop again for longer than 30 seconds).  If he'd gone home without it, he would have died the next morning at home, alone.   God had done what only He could do (providing and then prompting key people to intervene) and doctors and technology did the rest.  He now has a pacemaker/defibrillator to ensure that his heart keeps on beating for as long as God makes it possible.

I am grateful that whatever the outcome would have been that it was in God's Hand--because with God all things are possible.

  1. I too am grateful for GODs hand in all things. Everything happens for a reason. We just need to trust GOD to lead us where HE wants us. I count my blessings daily.
