Indwelling Spirit

"Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit," says the Lord Almighty."  -Zechariah 4:6

The famous sculptor, Augustus Saint-Gaudens (1848-1907) damned up this brook on his property to make the pool you see at the top of the waterfall.  He and fellow artists, who formed the Cornish Art Colony in New Hampshire, would make the trek down into the ravine to cool off after a long day of working with clay or painting.  It is now part of the Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site.  I highly recommend a visit if you are ever near Cornish, NH.

Lilias Trotter wrote more on the indwelling Spirit using the analogy of a spring of water:  "The springs teach us that the in-dwelling Spirit whom we have received by faith holds sway over our hearts by heavenly impulses, that throb within us like the pulsing we have all noticed in living water.  If we respond to that urging, He is set free in power.  He is the Spirit whom God has been to all them that obey Him.  The needs-be is that we should yield to His touch, heart-sensitiveness and quick, full co-operation, whether the inward call is to action, or utterance, or prayer letting Him work His way, as the hidden spring frees the silted channel--our aim, as Faber puts it "only not to impede the sweet grace from above."  The measure and the swiftness of our yielding will be the measure of the putting forth of His power."

I am grateful the power of God is set free in me just by obeying, and when I do I become a channel of  His love as refreshing as a cool pool of water or as strong as the current that spills out over the precipice.
