Good Soil

"....the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it.  This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown."  -Matthew 13:23

I usually buy plants in pots, but these hostas were all grown from the seed pod they produce after the flower is spent.  I started with a few plants that were already here when we moved in.  Every year I merely strip the stems of the pods at the end of the season and toss them here and there.  The results are hundreds of plants!  This is possible because the soil in this area is excellent.

Today is Mother's Day in the U.S.  It's a day mothers are honored for all they do for their children.  You could say mothers are charged with preparing the "soil" in which their children can grow to become happy, healthy, productive adults.  It is a mother's responsibility to see that her children's needs are met and with God's help she can raise them to give more than they take from the world and to be shining examples of God's love.  A mother's influence should never be taken for granted.

I am grateful for my mother's love and all that she sacrificed on my behalf.
