Rescued!

"Many are the affliction of the righteous, but the Lord rescues them from them all." -Psalm 34:19

In the 1939 movie version of "The Wizard of Oz" Dorothy was rescued from the Wicked Witch of the East when Dorothy's house fell on the witch.  This enraged the witch's sister, the Wicked Witch of the West, who then plots to get back at Dorothy.  But in the end, good wins and the evil witch, who can only be destroyed by water, disintegrates into nothing when the water Dorothy throws on the burning scarecrow--a fire started by the witch--lands on the witch as well.  This is a classic example of how love casts out fear--the root of evil.

Doing right often brings persecution upon us because those who live in fear do not understand and feel their way of life is threatened.  Throughout the Bible God saves those who love Him and want to serve Him by doing what is right.  When Jesus took our sins upon Himself we no longer had cause to live in fear.  His righteousness enables us to do what is right.  In doing so we are saved from the evil one with the promise that He will see us safely home--just as Dorothy was.

I am grateful that in Christ I have a rescuer.
