Greed

"By justice a king gives a country stability, but those who are greedy for bribes tear it down." -Proverbs 29:4

I saw first hand yesterday how the being greedy came to be associated with pigs.  The piglet in the foreground was pushed from his place by the piglet behind him.  But the piglet behind that piglet is actually in the trough "hogging" most of the food by standing in it.  There would be plenty of room and enough food for all if the one in the trough had manners!

Greed is one of those sins that none of us escapes.  It seems to rear its ugly head when we feel we might lose what we have and therefore we'd better not share or else we will end up with not enough.  But greed can also take on a life of its own when we start lusting after more and more.  When greed takes hold of a government, the whole country is in danger of being corrupted.  There is no justice!

I looked up the antonyms for greed but did not find the one I thought I would--humility.  If we are humble, however, we will be more willing to give than to take.  We will wait on God to provide what we need--not sitting-around-waiting, but obedient waiting, working and trusting that if we do what is required of us, we'll not be in want.

I am grateful I need never fear I won't have enough.
