St. Francis of Assisi - December 17

Fasting for Christmas

"One Christmas the brothers were discussing whether or not they were obliged to abstain from meat since the feast fell on a Friday.  Francis responded to Brother Morico, 'You sin, little brother, to call the day on which the Child was born for us a Friday.  On a day like this I want even the walls to eat meat, and if they can't, at least let their surface be smeared with it'."   --Celano, Second Life, 199

The day that marks the birth of Christ is no ordinary day.  It shouldn't even be considered a day of the week.  It was the event that brought the Light into the world!  This indeed is worthy of celebration!
