Living Our Faith

"For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world.  And this is the victory that has overcome the world: our faith."  -1 John 5:4

Several years ago we visited Bethlehem, PA just before Christmas.  The town was originally settled by the Moravians, a Christian sect originating in Moravia in the 1400's.  The Moravian Star could be found everywhere.  There are various versions of this star, which originally was a geometry lesson in the church's schools in the 1800s, and is now used to represent the Star of David during Advent, Christmas, and Epiphany.  John Wesley, the founder of the Methodists, was greatly influenced by them while crossing the Atlantic.  They were known for living their lives with no distinction between the secular and the sacred.  For them everything was considered worship.

Lilias Trotter wrote:  "This morning these words came with power:  'Whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world.'  I feel so that the desire that only grows the stronger as it remains unmet--to get down and down alongside the people and live a life on more 'apostolic' lines--must be of God.  If so it must find its way too.  If we could anyhow--anywhere--live more as Jesus lived His last years!"

I am grateful there are those who covenant to live by faith.
