Be Born Again

In the Peter passage he talks of being born again as imperishable seed.  It made me think of the difference between annual plants and perennial plants.  When annuals die each year a new seed must be planted the next Spring.  When perennials die come winter, only what you can see above ground dies.  The roots do not die--they are merely sleeping beneath the soil.  Next Spring they will experience a resurrection from the roots that have overwintered in the protective soil.  In addition, the seeds they drop will create more plants.  We humans are like the annuals.  We reproduce by seed.  Then we die.  When we are born again we are rooted in Christ which is imperishable.  The seeds we sow by how we witness for Christ with our lives and by telling others about Him will create new followers of Christ.  In my photo above the white flowers in the cement planter are annuals whereas the white flowers in the ground are perennial.  Sometimes people are like that--you can't tell who are Christians and who aren't.  They all look lovely, but some will die at the end of their life and others will be resurrected when Christ comes again.
