Psalm 55:22
I took this photo through the display window of the National Museum of Civil War Medicine. I feel the artist truly captured the anxiety this wife and mother felt as she prayed for the safety of her husband during the war. The thing about war is that you know people are going to die on both sides. Even if you chose not to serve, your life may still be in peril. But the truth is, our lives are in peril every day because of accidents, sickness, and murder--not to mention old age! That's the bad news. The good news is we don't have to choose anxiety--that's optional. Scripture tells us to cast off our anxious thoughts and think on what is good and noble instead. Putting our trust in God's plan for our lives will actually prevent some of our troubles. Just look at Eve. She became anxious when she thought God wasn't looking after her best interests and decided to take matters into her own hands. We all know what happened next. Trusting God will not undo all the harm that has been perpetrated by man's continual disobedience, but it will bring peace into your own heart, a clarity of mind that will help you navigate life more easily, and the knowledge that you will hear these words one day, "Well done, my good and faithful servant."
