"They ate and had some left over, according to the word of the LORD." -2 Kings 4:44
In today's Our Daily Bread Kirsten Holmberg writes about the time when a man from Baal Shalishah baked 20 loaves of barley bread and gave them to Elisha. Elisha told him to give it to the people to eat. The man asked how could it possibly feed 100 men. Elisha responded, "Give it to the people to eat. For this is what the LORD says: 'They will eat and have some left over.'"
Kirsten writes, "[The man] seems to have been tempted to withhold the food because--in his human understanding--it wouldn't be sufficient. Yet it was more than enough, because God took his gift, given in obedience, and made it enough."
Whether it's food, money, or words that need to be said, God can make whatever you give in obedience more than enough. Our part is obedience. His part is to provide.
I am grateful that God gives me what I need to serve Him.
