Brokenness

"The Spirit of the Lord is on Me, because He has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor.  He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set the oppressed free." -Luke 4:18

The Bleeding Heart plant is named so because of its heart-shaped flower.  It is a perennial so it returns to my garden each Spring and thrives until the Summer heat takes its toll on it.  Discover the Word, a radio program produced by Radio Bible Class, has begun a 2-week series today on Ann Voskamp's new book, The Broken Way.  Ann's first book, One Thousand Gifts:  A Dare to Live Full Right Where You Are, was wildly successful because it spoke to a great need.  I suspect that her new book will do the same.  People are becoming more and more disillusioned and......broken.  As today's program noted there is a good brokenness and a bad brokenness.

Jesus came to heal the brokenhearted and that is the Good News!  Time and time again in our walk with God we will be brought to a place of brokenness in order to receive His grace.  It is often the only way in which we can recognize our need for God.  But there is brokenness that can interfere with our healing because our pride is engaged.  I will be listening to this series and will share as I feel led.  Won't you listen along with me:  The Broken Way - Part 1, January 16
