Compassion

"Why have I found such favor [grace] in your eyes that you notice me--a foreigner?" -Ruth 2:10

In the book of Ruth the story is told of Ruth, a Moabite, following her mother-in-law, Naomi, now destitute, to Bethlehem so she could glean from Boaz's fields.  Boaz, a kinsman of Naomi's deceased husband, was impressed by Ruth's faithfulness to Naomi and ordered his men to let her glean even among the sheaves, as well as to pull out some from the bundles for her.  She is rewarded even more when Boaz takes her as his wife.

The refugee crisis has been in the news lately closer to home.  When it was happening in Europe it was easy to ignore to some extent.  Now we are being asked to confront our own feelings about it.  Where do you stand on it?  Do you follow your heart or do you let fears enter and override your compassion?

I am grateful that God is compassionate to those who are compassionate.  He loves us, but will not tolerate injustice.  This is why Jesus had to pay for our sins.  Please find it in your heart to love even foreigners, for we were all foreigners until God provided the Way and took us in.
