"Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds." -John 12:24
On today's Discover the Word program Ann Voskamp (see 1/16 post for introduction) talks about the difference between good brokenness and bad brokenness. We should indeed avoid bad brokenness--such as, sin. Good brokenness, however, is the yielded life. Not only does this take us out of our comfort zone, society does not encourage us to seek brokenness. We are taught to hide our weaknesses and pain. Ann encourages us to never be afraid of good brokenness because it is through this dying to self that Christ can be resurrected in us.
The mosaic stepping stones that my sons and daughter-in-law made for me many years ago are a beautiful example of what can be made from the broken pieces of our lives. When we allow Christ in through the cracks in our facades He can make something beautiful and useful.
I am grateful that none of my suffering and pain is wasted and that through it the Christ-life is resurrected in me to reflect God's love.
