"He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire." -Matthew 3:11
The camera lens fractures the light in such beautiful ways like this photo I captured of the sun setting between the leaves of the tree over the head of the young lady sitting in front of me. We were at an outdoor wedding and the couple were professing their love for one another in the ceremony.
In this Matthew passage John the Baptizer is explaining to his listeners that one would come after him who would baptize them with fire....and indeed this happened following Jesus's resurrection and ascension. Flames of fire were seen burning over the heads of those who received the Holy Spirit on the day known as Pentecost. The water baptism John performed symbolized the cleansing Christ's crucifixion would bring us. But the fire would be the power of the Holy Spirit who would now live in us once we believed. As long as we do not quench His Spirit we are guaranteed the Kingdom of God here and now and eternal life to come.
I am grateful for the Spirit in me to guide, protect, comfort and guarantee my safe journey to my true home.
