His Loving Peace

"And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
-Philippians 4:7

The verse that precedes today's scripture is, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God."  I did not lead with this verse because I wanted to emphasize what it is we all truly seek when we pray:  peace within.  Too often when we pray we focus on what is making us feel anxious, decide what will make the anxiety go away, then pray for that-----when what we really want is just God's peace.

The tree in my photo lost the huge limb a several years ago that my boys use to climb out on when they were children.  A few years later half of what remained of the tree's canopy broke off in a storm.  Ken set a ladder against the tree, climbed up as far as he could and strapped the trunk with cables just below the split to give the remaining half support.  The tree is still going strong--it towers above all the other trees in our woods.

God knows what's best for us.  Our lives may not be going as we'd planned, but if we give thanks for everything--even the things that make us feel anxious--He will wrap his loving arms around us and strengthen us with His everlasting peace.

I am grateful that God's peace is available to me always in all things.
