Solid Foundation

"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock."  -Matthew 7:24

In 1952 the original owner had our house built with a foundation of cement blocks.  Even the interior walls in the basement are cement blocks.  Upstairs the walls are plaster with wire mesh.  In addition, our house sits on a mountain ridge.  We wonder how much rock had to be dug out for the basement because in the woods behind the house there are huge boulders sticking up out of the ground in addition to the shelf of rock we discovered when we tried to plant more trees.  

When Jesus talks about building a house on the rock he is using that as a metaphor for himself.  If we build our lives on Him we will not fall apart in the next storm that blows through our life.  We'll be able to stand strong against adversity and temptation because we'll know we belong to God and have access to everything we need to see us through.

I am grateful that not only my house but my life has a solid foundation on which to live a fearless life.
