Cleansed Conscience

"If we claim to be already free from sin, we lead ourselves astray and the truth has no place in our hearts."  -1 John 1:8

While waiting for a job in his field after college one of my sons worked in a facility that packaged medical supplies.  He had to don a "clean suit" like this before entering the "clean room" so that he would not contaminate the supplies in any way.

In the same way we must wear a "clean suit" before we can enter the Kingdom of God.

Oswald Chambers writes,
The great miracle of the grace of God is that He forgives sin, and it is the death of Jesus Christ alone that enables the Divine nature to forgive and to remain true to itself in doing so.....The only ground on which God can forgive me is through the Cross of my Lord.  ......forgiveness means that I am forgiven into a recreated relationship, into identification with God in Christ."
In order for God to "live in our heart" our heart must be made clean through the cleansing blood of Jesus Christ.  It is by this that our guilt is removed and our consciences are made clean.  We no longer need any of our self-defense mechanisms, which only serve to separate us from each other,  because we are now covered with the righteousness of Christ.  We are freed to love as God loves because He is looking after us.  It is no longer necessary for us to defend ourselves because God is our defender.

I am grateful that I no longer have the job of defending myself.
