Friendship

"A friend loves at all times, And a brother is born for adversity."  -Proverbs 17:17

I love that my dog and cat are friends.  I love it so much that I've written stories about the friendship they have.  As Proverbs 17:17 notes, a friend loves at all times.  In thinking about friendships vs. the relationship between siblings it is easy to see why one could feel closer to a friend than a sibling.  We choose our friends based on similar interests and personalities.  Siblings, on the other hand, are almost guaranteed to be opposites.  They may not seek out each other's company once they leave home, but most will show up in a heartbeat if there is a problem.

One of my favorite hymns is What a Friend We Have in Jesus.  Jesus is the best friend we could ever have as well as being our brother.  He is always there in times of trouble and in times of joy.  As the song says "What a friend we have in Jesus all our sins and griefs to bear....Can we find a friend so faithful who will all our sorrows share?"

As the saying goes, "To have a friend you must be a friend."  Having Jesus as my friend should spur me on to love Him likewise.

I am grateful to have a friendship with Jesus.
